Rapper Fredo Santana, 27, dies in Los Angeles

The rap world lost another one on Friday (Jan. 19), as Chicago rapper Fredo Santana died at the age of 27, and the passing has left rappers who were friends with and admirers of the late MC like Chief Keef, Drake, Lil Durk, _99684027_19961229_1227137650764142_3982268528267715654_nYoung Chop and more in shock.

According to reports, Fredo may have suffered a fatal seizure in his Los Angeles home late last night. The death may be related to the rapper's previous diagnosis of kidney and liver failure. Last October, he went to the hospital for the issues, a possible result of his lean usage, and shared the experience with fans on social media. "Been in here since Friday doctor say a nigga had kidney failure an liver failure," he wrote on Instagram. "Thanks for everyone who prayed for a nigga I wouldn't wish this on my worse enemy."

Fredo later seemed to be in better spirits, and even contemplated going to rehab and being an example for the younger generation. "Hopefully I can be the face to sho niggas to slow down an we got our whole life ahead of us fuck being rock stars gettin high I got ptsd," he opened up to fans on Twitter a few days later. "I was running from my old life tryna get high didn't want to face them demons...I'm getting help I might just go to rehab."

His death has many in the hip-hop world shaken. A number of rappers have offered condolences to Fredo via social media. Houston's Maxo Kream was one of the first rappers to pay homage, posting a picture of Fredo on Instagram and captioning the photo, "Damn man I’m lost for words right now I’m cryin my ass off Fredo I love yu Bitch RIP a real Savage 💙."

Gucci Mane’s „El Gato: The Human Glacier“ Ties Billboard Record

Gucci Mane — HipHopDX’s Hardest Working Artists of 2017 — has joined an elite Billboard club thanks to his latest chart feat. According to Billboard, with the debut of El Gato: The Human Glacier at #9 on the Top Rap Albums chart, Gucci landed his 18th Top 10 on that specific chart, tying The East Atlanta Santa with E-40 and Tech N9ne. Guwop’s Trap House LP, released in 2005, was the first album from the rapper to enter into Top 10 territory on the Top Rap Albums chart. In 2009, Gucci landed the #1 spot on the Top Rap Albums chart with The State vs. Radric Davis. Although Gucci, Tech and E-40 are all tied with 18 Top 10 albums, several other rappers are only a handful of albums away from making the cut.

Kevin Gates Reportedly Getting Out Of Prison Next Week

Kevin Gates has been sitting in a cell at Illinois East Moline Correctional Facility for the past nine months. Now, it looks like the New Orleans MC is finally getting out of prison, according to TMZ. Illinois DeGatespartment of Corrections’ spokesperson Lindsey Hess reportedly said Gates is scheduled to be released next Wednesday (January 10) and added that he’ll be out on parole. His terms of release include mandatory supervision. As part of those conditions, he’s not allowed to possess any firearms either. Gates is serving a 30-month prison sentence for a gun charge, which he started shortly after serving 180 days in Polk County jail for battery in 2016. (The original version of this article was posted on December 26, 2017 and can be found below.) Kevin Gates is currently serving a 30-month prison sentence at East Moline Correctional Facility in Illinois and may be out on parole as soon as January 10, 2018, if all goes well. Gates’ previous parole date was set for June 22. If parole is granted for the 31-year-old MC, born Kevin Jerome Gilyard, he will be off parole in January 10, 2019, according to the Illinois Department of Corrections website (which inexplicably says he has no tattoos). Shortly after releasing Islah at the top of 2016, Gates served a 180-day sentence in Polk County jail after being found guilty of battery for kicking a fan at a Lakeland, Florida show. He was then transferred to East Moline Correctional Center on April 27 due to a gun charge case in Illinois dating back to 2013. His certified platinum Islah album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 and his wife Dreka, who has been handling all Bread Winners’ Association and family business while Gates has been locked up, helped facilitate the release of his By Any Means mixtape this past September.

Meek Mill Denied Bail After Being Deemed A „Danger“ To His Community

meek-millPHILADELPHIA, PA – Meek Mill has been met with bad news. On Monday (December 4), the Philly rapper’s request to be released on bail was denied by Judge Genece Brinkley, according to CBS Local.

Meek’s bail request was reportedly shut down by the controversial judge because she views him as a “danger” to the community and flight risk.

A early morning Twitter post from CBS’ Joe Holden reads, “Judge presiding over #MeekMill case DENIES his request for release on bail, saying he is a ‘danger’ to the community. Judge Genece Brinkley filed her order on Friday, courts just released it ten minutes ago.”

TMZ also reports Judge Brinkley suggested Meek may have used a Fast Flush detox capsule to pass his drug test.

The latest development in Meek’s case follows accusations from Meek’s legal team that Judge Brinkley asked Meek to remake a Boyz II Men song and tried to persuade the rapper to sign with a friend of hers.

Meek’s attorneys have since asked Judge Brinkley to recuse herself from the case but to no avail.

Meek’s legal woes began in 2009 with gun and drug charges and he’s since racked up multiple probation violations over the past eight years.

Fredo Santana says Chief Keef has signed with his Savage Squad Records label.

fredo-santana-plugged-in-2017-mixtape-685It's safe to say Chief Keef has never been one to take orders from record labels. Whether it be from Interscope or FilmOn TV, Sosa has always preferred to do things his own way, which ultimately might’ve hurt the trajectory of his career. But over the past year or so, the GBE rapper has been releasing music independently, having no one tell him what to do or when to drop, but it appears that might be coming to an end soon.According to his long time homie Fredo Santana, Sosa has signed a deal with Fredo’s Savage Squad Records label. “Just signed Sosa to @savagesquadrecords,” Fredo’s caption on IG read along with a clip of Sosa flossing.Who knows if this is true or if they’re just trolling us because it really doesn’t seem to make too much sense for Sosa to sign to Fredo, maybe the other way around? However if it is true, Sosa would join a roster of SD, Gino Marley, Cdai, and Boss Top over at Savage Squad Records.
